St Luke’s Hospital plans to raise $50 million over five years to redevelop its Bukit Batok campus, expand care capacity, and enhance training and innovation.

The redevelopment will support more than 60 inpatient palliative care beds by 2028, strengthening care for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Minister Chan Chun Sing emphasised integrating community care, investing in healthcare workers, and using technology to personalise care while maintaining human compassion.

SINGAPORE – St Luke’s Hospital (SLH) will be expanding its care capacity, strengthening community connections and enhancing facilities to support new models of care when it redevelops its Bukit Batok campus .

To do so, it has launched the St Luke’s Hospital Campus Redevelopment Fund to raise $50 million over five years through donations from philanthropic organisations, corporations, partners and members of the community.

The fund will not only support the campus redevelopment but also training and innovation.

This was announced at the hospital’s Charity Gala 2026 at the Shangri-La Singapore on Sept 25, held to mark its 30th anniversary.

Tan Boon Yeow, SLH chief executive, said: “Our vision for the future is to strengthen St Luke’s Hospital’s role as both a healthcare provider and a coordinator of care – expanding capacity where it is most needed, connecting care across different settings, and building capabilities that can benefit patients, families and the wider care sector.”

Apart from its plans for more than 60 inpatient palliative care beds at the Bukit Batok campus by early 2028, the new Alexandra Hospital campus will have 80 more by 2030, to strengthen Singapore’s capacity to support patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Speaking at the dinner as the guest of honour, Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing said Singapore is now a super-aged society, with more than 21 per cent of citizens aged 65 and above.

He said that while building the right infrastructure, constructing more buildings or adding more beds is relatively easy, coming up with models of care for a population with ageing needs “that have become more varied and diverse” is a bit more challenging.

“The previous models that we were familiar with were home care on one spectrum and institutional care on the other... somewhere in between these two bookends, there can be many new and innovative models,” he said, adding that Singapore has the resources and people with ideas and innovations to explore new models of care for the elderly and their diverse needs.

Chan, who is also the Defence Minister, said the people are the most important.

“At the end of the day, we can have the best infrastructure, the best models but if we do not have the right people with the right skills or the right values of care, we will never get to where we want to be,” he said.

“This is why over the years St Luke’s and other institutions have worked so hard behind the scenes to develop the core (group) of people to form the core of (the) care community that we want to see.”

Chan said when it comes to the people, he was referring to everyone in Singapore, who form the wider circle of care for the elderly in the country.

Agreeing, SLH chairman Khoo Teng Cheong said: “Our people are the key enablers who will bring this vision to life. We are proud to have been Great Place To Work Certified for the fourth consecutive year since 2023.

“This recognition reflects our continued commitment to building a workplace where our people feel valued, supported and empowered to give their best in caring for those we serve.”

As a token of appreciation, SLH presented Chan with a new orchid named Vanda St Luke’s Hospital.

圣路加医院计划在五年内筹集 5000 万美元，用于重建其武吉巴督院区、扩大医疗能力以及加强培训和创新。

到 2028 年，重建项目将提供 60 多张住院姑息治疗床位，加强对患有危及生命的疾病的患者及其家属的护理。

陈振声部长强调，要整合社区护理，投资于医疗保健工作者，并利用科技实现个性化护理，同时保持人文关怀。

新加坡——圣路加医院（SLH）在重建其武吉巴督院区时，将扩大其护理能力，加强社区联系，并改善设施以支持新的护理模式。

为此，该机构启动了圣卢克医院园区重建基金，计划在五年内通过慈善组织、企业、合作伙伴和社区成员的捐款筹集 5000 万美元。

该基金不仅将支持校园重建，还将支持培训和创新。

该消息于9月25日在新加坡香格里拉大酒店举行的医院2026慈善晚宴上宣布，此次晚宴旨在庆祝医院成立30周年。

圣路加医院首席执行官陈文耀表示：“我们对未来的愿景是加强圣路加医院作为医疗服务提供者和护理协调者的角色——在最需要的地方扩大容量，连接不同机构的护理，并建立能够造福患者、家属和更广泛的护理行业的能力。”

除了计划在 2028 年初之前在武吉巴督院区增设 60 多张住院姑息治疗床位外，新的亚历山大医院院区到 2030 年还将增设 80 张床位，以加强新加坡为患有危及生命的疾病的患者及其家人提供支持的能力。

公共服务统筹部长陈振声作为主宾在晚宴上致辞时表示，新加坡现在是一个超老龄化社会，65岁及以上的公民占比超过21%。

他表示，虽然建设合适的基础设施、建造更多建筑物或增加更多床位相对容易，但为“需求变得更加多样化”的老龄化人口制定护理模式则更具挑战性。

“我们以前熟悉的模式要么是居家护理，要么是机构护理……在这两种极端之间，可以有很多新的、创新的模式，”他说道，并补充说，新加坡拥有资源和人才，他们有想法和创新精神，可以探索新的老年人护理模式，以满足他们多样化的需求。

兼任国防部长的陈先生表示，人民是最重要的。

“归根结底，即使我们拥有最好的基础设施、最好的模式，但如果我们没有具备合适技能或正确护理价值观的合适人才，我们也永远无法达到我们想要的目标，”他说。

“正因如此，多年来，圣卢克医院和其他机构一直在幕后努力培养核心人员，以形成我们希望看到的护理社区的核心。”

陈先生表示，他所说的“人民”指的是新加坡的每一个人，他们共同构成了新加坡老年人关爱的大家庭。

SLH董事长邱腾昌对此表示赞同，他说：“我们的员工是实现这一愿景的关键力量。我们很自豪能够自2023年以来连续第四年获得‘最佳工作场所’认证。”

“这项荣誉体现了我们持续致力于打造一个让员工感到自身价值、获得支持并有能力尽最大努力照顾我们所服务对象的职场环境。”

为了表达谢意，SLH 向 Chan 赠送了一株名为“圣路加医院万代兰”的新兰花。
