SEOUL, Sept. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's finance minister met with the central bank governor Monday to discuss ways to strengthen coordination to address economic uncertainties, the finance ministry said.

Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il, who took office last week, held talks with Bank of Korea (BOK) Gov. Shin Hyun-song during his first visit to the central bank since taking office, according to the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

"We consider (the BOK) an important policy partner in discussions on economic stability and growth," said Lee, who wore a blue tie that's available as a souvenir at the central bank.

"We hope to jointly explore and cooperate on a range of issues, including the internationalization of the Korean won, digital finance, and ways to expand the economy's growth potential and ensure the benefits of growth are more widely shared," the finance minister added.

The meeting lasted around 40 minutes.

During the meeting, the two policymakers shared the view that South Korea's economic growth is gaining momentum, supported by strong export and investment indicators amid the semiconductor supercycle.

Lee and Shin, however, noted persistent pressure on people's livelihoods amid heightened external uncertainties, including interest rate hikes in major economies and geopolitical risks.

"The BOK's recent monetary policy response is expected to contain demand-side inflationary pressures and bolster confidence in the South Korean economy, helping stabilize the exchange rate and ease cost pressures, thereby strengthening the country's economic fundamentals," Shin said.

"The BOK's efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability, together with the government's policy efforts to expand the economy's growth potential, will play a key role in strengthening the foundation for sustainable growth," Shin added.

The two men said financial, foreign exchange and property markets are becoming increasingly interconnected, stressing the need for closer cooperation between their institutions to address economic risks preemptively.

To this end, Lee called for greater communication between the finance ministry and the BOK to pursue their shared goals of price stability, economic growth and financial stability.

“我们希望共同探讨和合作解决一系列问题，包括韩元国际化、数字金融，以及如何扩大经济增长潜力并确保经济增长的成果得到更广泛分享，”财政部长补充道。

会议持续了大约40分钟。

会晤期间，两位政策制定者一致认为，在半导体超级周期的推动下，韩国经济增长势头强劲，出口和投资指标也随之走强。

然而，李和申指出，在主要经济体加息和地缘政治风险等外部不确定因素加剧的情况下，人们的生计持续面临压力。

申宗宪表示：“韩国央行近期采取的货币政策措施有望抑制需求侧通胀压力，提振市场对韩国经济的信心，有助于稳定汇率、缓解成本压力，从而增强韩国的经济基本面。”

申宗宪补充道：“韩国央行为维持宏观经济稳定所做的努力，以及政府为扩大经济增长潜力而采取的政策措施，将在加强可持续增长的基础方面发挥关键作用。”

两人表示，金融、外汇和房地产市场正变得越来越相互关联，强调各机构之间需要更紧密的合作，以防患于未然地应对经济风险。

为此，李呼吁财政部和韩国央行加强沟通，以实现价格稳定、经济增长和金融稳定的共同目标。
