Bukit Panjang fire victim dies two days after being taken unconscious to hospital

This would make it the sixth death from a fire since July 28.

SINGAPORE – A 77-year-old woman who was taken unconscious to hospital after a fire in a Bukit Panjang flat on Sept 28 has died, the police said on Sept 30.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a social media post on Sept 28 that it was alerted to the fire at Block 126 Pending Road at about 3pm that day.

When its officers arrived at the scene, black smoke was coming out of a unit on the sixth floor.

The fire involved items in the living room, said SCDF, adding that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire was extinguished using one water jet.

Firefighters found an unconscious person in the living room during the firefighting operation, and took the person out of the unit.

An SCDF paramedic and emergency medical technicians performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before the person was taken to Woodlands Hospital.

Another person from a neighbouring unit was assessed for smoke inhalation and was taken to Singapore General Hospital.

About 70 people from the affected block were evacuated as a precaution.

There have been five other deaths from a residential fire since July 28:

A 70-year-old man died after a fire broke out in an HDB flat in MacPherson in the early morning of July 28.

A 65-year-old man died after a fire broke out in an HDB flat in Clementi late on July 31.

An 88-year-old man died on Aug 5 after a fire broke out in an HDB flat in Little India on the evening of Aug 3.

A 67-year-old man died after a fire broke out in an HDB flat in Jurong East in the early hours on Aug 16.

A 68-year-old man died after a fire broke out at an HDB flat in Lorong Lew Lian , in Upper Serangoon, on Sept 1.

There were six fire fatalities and 94 fire injuries in 2025 , according to SCDF’s annual statistics report in Feb 2026. There were seven fire deaths and 80 fire injuries in 2024.

According to the report, the total number of fires here increased by 3% – from 1,990 in 2024 to 2,050 in 2025. Of these, 1,051 involved fires at residential buildings.

Unattended cooking and electrical fires – including faults in electrical wiring or overloaded sockets – remained the top two causes of home fires.

Of the 304 cases of electrical fires at residential premises in 2025, 34 involved active mobility devices. These include personal mobility devices, power-assisted bicycles and personal mobility aids.

火势被一门水炮扑灭了。

消防员在灭火过程中发现客厅里有一名昏迷不醒的人，并将此人从屋内抬了出来。

新加坡民防部队的医护人员和急救技术员对该伤者进行了心肺复苏，之后将其送往兀兰医院。

隔壁单元的另一名住户因吸入烟雾接受了评估，并被送往新加坡中央医院。

为安全起见，受影响街区的约 70 人被疏散。

自7月28日以来，另有5人因住宅火灾丧生：

7月28日凌晨，麦波申的一间组屋发生火灾，一名70岁男子不幸身亡。

7月31日晚，金文泰一间组屋发生火灾，一名65岁男子不幸身亡。

8 月 3 日晚，小印度一间组屋发生火灾，一名 88 岁男子于 8 月 5 日去世。

8月16日凌晨，裕廊东一间组屋发生火灾，一名67岁男子不幸身亡。

9月1日，上实龙岗路刘莲巷的一间组屋发生火灾，一名68岁男子不幸身亡。

根据新加坡民防部队2026年2月发布的年度统计报告，2025年共有6人死于火灾，94人受伤；2024年共有7人死于火灾，80人受伤。

根据该报告，该地区火灾总数增加了 3%，从 2024 年的 1990 起增加到 2025 年的 2050 起。其中，1051 起涉及住宅建筑火灾。

无人照看的烹饪和电气火灾（包括电线故障或插座过载）仍然是家庭火灾的两大主要原因。

2025年发生的304起住宅电气火灾中，有34起涉及主动式移动设备。这些设备包括个人移动设备、电动辅助自行车和个人移动辅助工具。
