The family of a Singaporean killed in a three-vehicle crash in Malaysia earlier this month has paid tribute to him, remembering him as a beloved son.
Chua Bing Xuan, 26, was a passenger in a Perodua Myvi which was involved in the crash on Sept 19 along the Senai-Desaru Expressway in Kota Tinggi, Johor, reported the New Straits Times (NST).
The crash also involved a Proton Exora and a Mazda CX-30.
Chua, the youngest in the family, completed his National Service in July, reported 8world.
The deceased's brother, Bingtian (transliteration), recounted that Chua and four friends were returning to Singapore from a trip to Desaru to celebrate his completion of National Service when the accident occurred.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Yusof Othman said that the Perodua Myvi was driven by a 21-year-old Malaysian man and had four passengers, including Chua.
Police said the Perodua Myvi was believed to have overtaken another vehicle before colliding with the Proton Exora, which was travelling in the opposite direction. The Mazda subsequently crashed into the rear of the Exora.
The driver and all passengers in the Perodua Myvi, as well as the two occupants of the Exora, suffered serious injuries. Chua was later pronounced dead at Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru.
'Forever in our hearts'
The brother reportedly said a funeral services employee visited their home on the afternoon of Sept 19 to deliver the devastating news, leaving him and his parents in shock.
They immediately rushed to Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru to identify the body.
Fighting back his grief, he said the sudden accident was a devastating blow to the family, particularly his mother, who has yet to accept that her youngest son is gone.
He said: "My brother had just finished his National Service and was busy looking for a job and going to interviews. But before he could enter the workforce, his life came to an abrupt end."
In a TikTok post uploaded on Monday (Sept 28), Chua's family paid tribute to him by sharing a video of him celebrating his birthday just a week before the Sept 19 crash.
"We just a humble family," they captioned. "You will forever live in our hearts".
They added that Malaysian media reports had covered the fatal crash but did not identify him as a Singaporean.
"We are genuinely curious whether this is the normal reporting practice for accidents involving a foreign national," the family wrote in the post caption.
"We are grieving and trying to understand the process, while making sure that our brother’s case is properly acknowledged and that our family is not overlooked simply because the accident happened overseas."
The Malaysian reports identified Chua by name and age and described him as a passenger in the Perodua Myvi, but did not state that he was Singaporean.
Police also did not identify his nationality in the statement cited by the reports, while investigations into the crash are ongoing.

他们还补充说，马来西亚媒体报道了这起致命车祸，但没有指出死者是新加坡人。
“我们真的很好奇，对于涉及外国公民的事故，这是否是正常的报告做法，”该家庭在帖子标题中写道。
“我们正在悲痛之中，努力理解整个流程，同时确保我们兄弟的案件得到妥善处理，并且我们的家人不会仅仅因为事故发生在海外而被忽视。”
马来西亚的报道指出蔡某的姓名和年龄，并称他是 Perodua Myvi 汽车上的乘客，但没有说明他是新加坡人。
警方在报道引述的声明中也没有透露他的国籍，目前对这起车祸的调查仍在进行中。
