Firemen rescued 37 pupils and seven teachers from Umiku Sayang Kindergarten in Johor Bahru after flash floods trapped them.
Authorities received the emergency call at 3.53pm and dispatched a team of 10 firemen to the scene.
All victims were evacuated safely using a boat, and no injuries were reported.
JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 30 – Firemen managed to rescue 37 pupils and seven teachers who were earlier trapped in the Umiku Sayang Kindergarten and Nursery on Jalan Muhd Amin here after it was inundated by a flash floods today.
Larkin Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer I Nakish Nekmat said that authorities received an distress call regarding the incident at 3.53pm.
Following the call, a team of 10 firemen – equipped with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit – were dispatched to the scene that was located about 10 kilometres away.
“The firemen arrived at 4.14pm and immediately conducted a rescue operation using a volunteer's boat to evacuate the trapped victims to the nearby Tepian Food Court Surau.
“All victims were successfully evacuated, and no injuries were reported," he said in a statement.
Continuous heavy rain this afternoon had caused flash flooding in several areas around the city.
Many were trapped in traffic after flood waters rose causing roads to be inaccessible to motorists.
