Singapore's largest supermarket chain FairPrice will lower and lock prices of selected chicken and egg products across more than 100 of its supermarkets from now till Dec 31.

"This reinforces FairPrice's longstanding commitment to keep daily essentials within reach and return value to customers," the chain said in a news release on Thursday (Oct 1) morning.

During this period, shoppers will be able to purchase a tray of Dasoon Fresh Eggs (30 per pack, 50g each) for $4.95, instead of the usual price of $6.45.

Meanwhile, its Seara Frozen Chicken (Griller, 1kg) will be sold at $2.50. This is $3.50 lower than its usual retail price of $6.

According to FairPrice, the two products are offered at their lowest prices since 2021 as part of a year-end initiative to deliver over $2.5 million in savings directly to customers while keeping everyday sources of protein affordable.

Meanwhile, it also pledged to extend discounts on selected fruits and vegetables till the end of 2026.

The initiatives comes as Singapore's core inflation rose to 2.2 per cent from a year earlier in August, with increase in food prices among the contributors to the rise.

“Chicken and eggs are daily staples for most Singapore households, and we want to give customers greater certainty that these essentials will remain within reach," said Vipul Chawla, group chief executive officer of FairPrice Group.

Last month, the group enhanced its discounts for Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) Blue and Orange cardholders, froze prices on 500 daily essentials , and introduced a special $6 SG61 Return Voucher .

It also brought back its $4 return voucher programme from Sept 17 to 27.
