Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong is visiting Malaysia for a one-day working visit focused on bolstering economic ties and supply chain resilience.

The visit includes meetings with Malaysian trade officials, and the Third Annual Ministerial Dialogue aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and the halal industry.

A significant outcome of the dialogue will be finalizing the Terms of Reference for the Malaysia-Singapore Supply Chain Working Group, intended to strengthen supply chain resilience and minimize disruptions.

The visit also seeks to explore new areas for collaborative opportunities between the two nations.

SEPANG, Oct 1 — Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong arrived in Malaysia today for a one-day working visit, with strengthening economic ties and supply chain resilience between the two countries at the top of the agenda.

The commercial aircraft carrying Gan and his delegation landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 here at 9.40am.

Gan, who is also Singapore trade and industry minister, was warmly welcomed by Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) Deputy Secretary-General (Investment and Management) R. Jaya Singam.

During the visit, Gan is scheduled to meet Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and attend a business luncheon with the Malaysia-Singapore Business Council in Kuala Lumpur.

He is also slated to co-chair the Third Annual Ministerial Dialogue (AMD) between MITI and Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and meet Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir in Putrajaya.

The Third AMD will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in investment, trade and the economy, particularly in supply chain resilience and the halal industry, amid an increasingly complex and uncertain global geo-economic and geopolitical environment.

A key outcome expected from the dialogue is the adoption of the Terms of Reference for the Malaysia-Singapore Supply Chain Working Group, aimed at enhancing supply chain resilience, coordinating crisis responses, facilitating the cross-border movement of goods, and minimising disruptions to both countries’ supply chains.

The visit also provides an opportunity for both countries to explore new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in investment, trade and the halal industry.

In 2025, Singapore was Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner globally and largest among Asean member states, with bilateral trade valued at RM402.8 billion.

During the same period, Singapore was also Malaysia’s largest source of foreign direct investment among Asean member states, with investments totalling RM53.4 billion. — Bernama
