'Their second chance in life': Organs of Muay Thai fighter who died after bout donated to 4 recipients

The organs of 24-year-old Muay Thai fighter who died after collapsing following a charity bout on Sept 12 have been donated to four recipients.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (Sept 30), Death Kopitiam shared that Damian Ong's organs, including liver and two kidneys, were donated to four patients, giving them a second chance in life.

Death Kopitiam is a digital platform and online community where users share written tributes, obituaries and stories remembering loved ones who have passed.

According to Death Kopitiam, the information was provided by a member of Ong's inner circle who declined to be named.

One of the recipients had a severe heart condition.

Ong's liver was donated to a 68-year-old married woman with a child and had reportedly been waiting for a transplant for more than two years.

His kidneys were also donated.

The first went to a 40-year-old married man who had been on dialysis for more than eight years, while the second went to a 38-year-old woman who also had been on dialysis for nine years.

The reel also included notes from the transplant coordinators expressing gratitude for Ong's donation and its impact on the recipients.

Based on checks by AsiaOne, one of the transplant coordinators identified in the reel is from the National Organ Transplant Unit at National University Hospital.

"Mr Ong transformed the lives of these recipients allowing them to be freed from the routine of dialysis and given a renewed chance to experience time with their families," it wrote.

"(He) has blessed many and no words can describe the gratefulness of the recipients and their families for their second chance in life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

AsiaOne has also reached out to a member of Ong's inner circle for comment.

On Sept 28, police said Ong was taken unconscious to hospital after participating in the AMC 13 — Fight for Hope tournament.

He subsequently died, with police adding that preliminary investigations did not suspect foul play.

Investigations are ongoing.
