Perak police have recorded statements from nine individuals as part of the investigation into a recent shooting of a businessman at a Bidor petrol station.

Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin reported the victim is now stable after undergoing surgery.

Investigations, aided by CCTV footage, are ongoing to determine the motive and identify the suspects, who are believed to have used a vehicle with a fake registration.

The police are exploring various angles, including the possibility that the victim was targeted and followed.

IPOH, Oct 1 — Perak police have recorded statements from nine people, including the victim, in their investigation into the shooting of a businessman at a petrol station in Bidor Sentral last Tuesday.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said those whose statements were recorded included three family members who were in the victim’s vehicle, two people in a vehicle near the scene and employees of the petrol station.

He said the victim is now in stable condition after receiving treatment and undergoing surgery at Seri Botani Hospital, while police are investigating from various angles, including identifying the motive, which has yet to be established.

“So far, police have not been able to determine the exact motive for the incident. Once we establish the motive based on the investigation, we will announce it,” he told reporters at the Perak Police Senior Officers’ Mess here today.

Mohd Alwi said police suspected that three individuals were involved in the incident, including a driver, while the registration number of the vehicle used by the suspects was believed to be fake.

He said police had also obtained closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the petrol station, which showed the victim being shot from two angles, from the front and the right side.

“We also reviewed CCTV footage at toll plazas and elsewhere, but what we found was that they did not exit the toll.

“However, we are still examining various angles to identify the suspects,” he said.

Police are also investigating the possibility that the victim was being followed, based on the movement of the suspects’ vehicle, which was driven at high speed before stopping in front of the victim’s vehicle and opening fire.

According to Mohd Alwi, the victim is a businessman who owns a restaurant and runs several businesses around Bidor, Sungai Siput and Tapah.

In the incident, the victim, who sustained a single gunshot wound to the left shoulder, was sent to Tapah Hospital for initial treatment. — Bernama
