Air quality in Singapore remained in the moderate range on Thursday (Oct 1) as moderate to thundery showers fell over several parts of the island.

At 6pm, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) ranged between 60 and 74, with central and eastern Singapore recording the highest reading of 74.

Meanwhile, one-hour PM2.5 concentration readings remained in the normal band across all five regions.

In its daily haze situation update on Thursday evening, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the country's 24-hour PSI forecast is expected to be in the moderate to low-unhealthy range.

It added that moderate to dense smoke plumes were observed in southern Sumatra and Kalimantan, and that smoke haze from southern Kalimantan was seen drifting towards the vicinity of Singapore.

Despite showers forecast for Singapore and the surrounding region, prevailing south-easterly or southerly winds could transport smoke haze towards the Republic, NEA said.

Members of the public are advised to check the one-hour PM2.5 concentration readings before taking part in outdoor activities over the next few hours.
