A 28-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision involving a lorry on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Oct 1.

The accident resulted in a major traffic jam along PIE under the Chantek flyover, according to an AsiaOne reader who was commuting on a Tower Transit bus on the highway.

The reader passed by the accident site at around 12.50pm, just 10 minutes after seeing an ambulance drive past her bus on the PIE.

Another AsiaOne reader also spotted several police vehicles and a Crime Scene Investigation van at the scene.

A motorcycle could be seen lying on its side on the expressway, surrounded by traffic cones, in footage provided by the readers.

AsiaOne is unable to independently verify how the accident occurred.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said that they were alerted to a road traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a lorry along the PIE towards Changi Airport on Oct 1 at around 9.50am.

The motorcyclist was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital unconscious, according to the police and SCDF.

He subsequently died in hospital.

The police added that the 48-year-old lorry driver is assisting with investigations, which are ongoing.
