Taiwan’s Chang Cheng-wei yesterday added a silver medal to his quiver in the men’s compound archery, while Wu Jung-cheng paddled to second place in the men’s individual canoe slalom, helping bring Taiwan’s medal count at the Asian Games in Japan to 42.

Seventh seed Chang, who on Wednesday won a bronze medal in the men’s team compound, fired 15 arrows for 145 points in the championship match, four points behind winner Kim Jong-ho of South Korea.

Earlier in the day at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, world No. 46 Chang pipped Vietnam’s Dang Cong Duc 145-144 in the semi-finals, after outshooting China’s Liu Jinyi in the quarter-finals.

Today, Taiwan’s Tang Chih-chun, Lin Zih-siang and Cheng Hsiang-hui are to face South Korea in the men’s team recurve semi-final. Tomorrow, Tang will face Japan’s Junya Nakanishi in the men’s individual recurve quarter-final, while Li Tsai-chi and Hsu Hsin-tzu are to compete against China’s Zhu Jingyi and South Korea’s Oh Ye-jin respectively in the women’s individual recurve quarter-finals.

At the Yahagigawa Canoe Slalom Course in Toyota City, Wu incurred three two-second touch penalties in the men’s canoe slalom to finish with the silver medal at 119.09 seconds, 21 seconds behind champion Zhang Zhicheng of China.

A touch penalty is assessed when any part of a paddler, their boat or paddle touches a pole at a gate.

Wu and compatriot Liao Li-hong today start their men’s individual kayak cross campaign, while in the women’s kayak cross, Wu Ting-i will be competing alongside Chang Chu-han, who yesterday narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the women’s kayak single final, finishing fourth at 113.48 seconds, 5.88 seconds behind winner Kurumi Ito of Japan.

At Nagoya’s Higashiyama Park Tennis Center, Taiwan’s Ray Ho and Hsu Yu-hsiou won the men’s doubles bronze medal after a valiant 1-hour, 33-minute battle against Ho’s former partner Nam Ji-sung of South Korea and Park Ui-sung.

Ho and Hsu out-aced the South Korean duo, but ultimately lost the 41-minute first set 6-7 （3/7）, before recovering to take the second set 6-2. In the 14-minute match tie-break Nam and Park edged the Taiwanese 11-9.

Ho and Nam previously won the Busan Open men’s doubles in April 2024 — defeating Hsu and South Korea’s Chung Yun-seong — and the Santaizi ATP Challenger in Taipei the following month.

Meanwhile, in e-sports, Taiwan’s Lin Yu-en （“Woody”）, Liu Chia-hao （“ShiauC”）, Chiu Tzu-chuan （“Doggo”）, Yu Chun-chia （“JunJia”）, Tsai Ming-hung （“hongQ”） and Chen Yi-chin （“1Jiang”） are guaranteed at least a silver after dominating Vietnam 2-0 in their League of Legends semi-final at the Aichi Sky Expo Esport Substage.

The Taiwanese face South Korea in the final.

Taiwan is currently ranked 15th overall in the medal count with three gold, 12 silver and 27 bronze medals.
