OKAZAKI, Japan, Oct. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea captured its second straight Asian Games gold medal in the men's team event in recurve archery Friday.

The trio of Lee Woo-seok, Kim Je-deok and Kim Woo-jin defeated India by the set score of 5-1 in the men's team final of the Aichi-Nagoya Asiad at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square in Okazaki, some 50 kilometers southeast of the main host city, Nagoya.

Lee and Kim Je-deok had also won the 2023 team gold medal with a different third member, Oh Jin-hyek. Kim Woo-jin won the team gold with Oh and Im Dong-hyun in 2010 and then silver with Lee and Oh in 2018.

The men's gold was also South Korea's third archery medal on Friday, following the women's team silver and the mixed team bronze.

South Korea had set out to sweep all five recurve titles, but the plan went awry from the beginning when the women's team lost to India 5-3 in Friday's first archery final.

Kim Je-deok joined Kang Chae-young for the mixed team event, but they settled for bronze after losing to China 6-0 in the semifinals and then defeating Japan 5-1 in the third-place match.

The men took care of business, with a 6-0 win over Chinese Taipei in the semifinals preceding the victory over India.

In recurve team matches, each of the three archers per team takes two arrows per set, for a total of six arrows and a maximum score of 60 points per set for each team. Teams earn two points for a set win and one point for a tie. The goal is to reach five points first.

The teams traded 56s in the first set, with the set score knotted at 1-1. In the second set, Lee, Kim Je-deok and Kim Woo-jin hit consecutive 10s at the start, while India's Neeraj Chauhan, Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge and Dhiraj Bommadevara went 9-8-8 with their first three arrows. Chauhan and Bommadevara hit 8s with their second arrows, allowing South Korea to win the second set 57-50 and take the set score lead at 3-1.

Both teams shot 10-9-9 with their first three arrows of the third set. India then put up the scores of 7-9-10, and South Korea went 10-9-9 to take the third set 56-54 and win the match 5-1.
