Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari will present the Sarawak Budget 2027, addressing topics like electricity tariffs, economic direction, and state revenue at the upcoming DUN session.

He assured that Sarawak would not raise electricity tariffs under his leadership, highlighting the importance of protecting Sarawak's rights to oil and gas resources.

The budget will fund development needs, with Abang Johari emphasising the role of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad in managing the state's oil and gas resources.

MUKAH, Oct 3 — Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg hinted that the Sarawak Budget 2027, to be tabled at the upcoming State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session, will address various matters, including electricity tariffs, economic direction, and the state’s revenue position.

However, he did not elaborate on the measures to be announced, asking the public instead to await the budget presentation.

“God willing, I will table the Sarawak Budget in two weeks. Let us wait for the budget.

“Other states have raised electricity tariffs. As for whether Sarawak will raise them... do not worry, as long as Abang Johari is here,” he said while officiating the Sarawakku Sayang 2026 Programme (Mukah Division) at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja here today.

Abang Johari also gave an indication regarding Sarawak’s economic direction and the state’s revenue position, details of which will be provided during the presentation.

“What about our economic direction for the future of our children? Do not worry... the future is bright. And what about Sarawak’s revenue? Is it up or down? Wait for the 12th (of October),” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said Sarawak would not back down in defending its rights to oil and gas resources, ensuring that the wealth generated is utilised to fund development and improve the people’s well-being.

He noted that this stance is based on Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“I will not back down regarding Sarawak’s rights to oil and gas. We must optimise our natural resources so that the returns can be channeled back to the people of Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari said state revenue is required to fund various development needs, including the construction of roads and infrastructure, as well as the development of the agricultural sector.

He noted that the establishment of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) is one of the state government’s strategic measures to manage oil and gas resources. — Bernama
