Panama President Mulino on 3-day state visit to Singapore

Panama President Jose Raul Mulino Quintero is on a three-day state visit to Singapore till Oct 5.

Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 3) that the visit is at the invitation of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

This is also the 67-year-old's first visit to Singapore as Panama's head of state.

"President Mulino’s visit reaffirms the warm ties between Singapore and Panama and provides an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen legal and maritime cooperation, as well as to deepen ties in areas such as trade and investment, agri-trade, logistics, and sustainability," MFA said in its statement.

On Monday, President Mulino will call on President Tharman, who will also be hosting a state banquet in his honour.

He will also meet with with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

A new orchid hybrid will also be named in honour of President Mulino and First Lady Mulino.

Panama's Ministry of Foreign Relations said in a statement posted on its social media that President Mulino is travelling to Singapore and Vietnam to attract investments, open new markets and strengthen alliances in the maritime, aerospace, technology, commercial, energy and agricultural sectors.

He is accompanied by First Lady Mulino, Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez, Minister for Canal Affairs Jose Ramon Icaza, and senior officials.
