The tragic road accident on Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing led to the deaths of Nor Azilah A Rahman and Mislan Osman when their car collided with a lorry.

Their daughter, Ain Zanariah Mislan, reminisces about subtle changes in her father's behavior before the incident.

The crash, which occurred due to poor road conditions, also severely injured the couple's two younger daughters.

The investigation by Kluang police revealed that the Hyundai Matrix lost control on a slippery road, causing the fatal collision.

BATU PAHAT, Oct 3 — The daughter of a couple who died in a road crash at Kilometre 72.5 of Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing yesterday never expected an incident she initially thought was minor to claim her parents’ lives.

Ain Zanariah Mislan, 33, said she received news that her mother, Nor Azilah A Rahman, 49, and father, Mislan Osman, 54, had been killed after their car collided with a lorry while they were returning home from Endau, Mersing, after sending off her grandmother.

She was at work when she received the call at about 5.30pm. Her husband, Mohd Hazerul, 33, then broke the news that her parents had died, while her two younger sisters, who were also in the Hyundai Matrix, were injured.

“At first, I thought it was just a minor accident... my husband tried calling my sister’s mobile phone, but someone else answered and said our parents had been pronounced dead at the scene. The person who answered was a driver right behind their car.

“We also made a video call with the woman we called ‘akak’. What broke our hearts most was seeing our parents pinned inside the car ourselves,” she said at her residence in Kampung Parit Pulai, near here today.

According to Ain Zanariah, her husband said her father had flashed an unusually different smile the morning before the accident, before they left for Mersing at 9.30am.

She added that in the week before the incident, her father had often been seen tidying the house, including sweeping and mowing the lawn, which was out of character for him.

“Over the past week, my late father kept cleaning the compound thoroughly, sweeping the grounds, mowing the lawn, and doing other chores as if he knew many people would come over,” she said.

It was reported yesterday that a married couple were killed while their two daughters were severely injured in a collision between a car and a lorry at Kilometre 72.5 of Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing.

Kluang police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the crash involved a lorry driven by a 34-year-old man heading from Kluang towards Kahang and a Hyundai Matrix travelling in the opposite direction.

He said investigations found that the Hyundai Matrix, driven by the 54-year-old local man, was believed to have lost control on the slippery road before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the lorry. — Bernama
