In Kuala Terengganu, a mentally challenged man allegedly attacked and fatally beat his elder brother due to dissatisfaction over the latter's frequent monetary requests from their parents.

KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 4 — Dissatisfaction with his elder brother, who allegedly frequently asked their parents for money, is believed to have led a mentally challenged man to attack and beat his brother to death in Bukit Payong here yesterday, police said.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said police received information about a fight at a family home in Kampung Banggol Tasekat at about 10.55am.

He said initial investigations found that the 43-year-old victim, the suspect’s elder brother, died after being allegedly beaten with a blunt object, while the suspect’s 36-year-old sister was also injured when she tried to stop the attack.

“The 42-year-old suspect, who is a person with a mental disability, was arrested by police by the roadside in Bandar Bukit Payong shortly after the incident.

“He was believed to be dissatisfied with his brother, who has a drug-related record and allegedly frequently asked the family for money,” he told a press conference at the Terengganu police contingent headquarters here today.

He said the suspect’s sister was receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital after suffering a wound to the back of her head, a fractured right thumb and a minor injury to her spleen.

Mohd Khairi said the suspect was remanded today to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. — Bernama
