KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is tracking down individuals and groups offering illegal motorcycle ride-hailing services to transport visitors and spectators attending the Formula One (F1) Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

According to Berita Harian , the operators were found advertising their services through various social media platforms, offering rides from several locations to the circuit grounds and between SIC and nearby parking areas.

A survey of social media postings showed that both car and motorcycle transport services were being promoted, although motorcycles appeared to be the preferred option among spectators seeking to avoid heavy traffic congestion around the circuit.

On Threads, some riders were offering trips between Mitsui Outlet Park Sepang and SIC for RM10 each way. Others advertised motorcycle taxi services, commonly referred to as “gojek”, charging RM10 for journeys between Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) and SIC.

The report also found touts offering rides for as much as RM80 for a 10-kilometre journey from Mitsui Outlet Park to a Petronas station near the main entrance of the circuit. Some operators were also said to provide helmets for passengers.

While the services have attracted visitors looking for a faster alternative to traffic-clogged roads, concerns have been raised over safety risks, particularly in the event of accidents or other unforeseen incidents.

JPJ is understood to be conducting an enforcement operation around SIC and several hotspot locations near the circuit and KLIA. Authorities are also taking action based on information and advertisements that have gone viral on social media.

The enforcement comes amid an influx of spectators attending the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix, with traffic congestion around the Sepang circuit area drawing widespread attention over the weekend.
