• Sentencing hearing: Caleb Flynn will be in court today for a sentencing hearing after he was found guilty of murdering his wife , Ashley Flynn. The former “American Idol” contestant faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

• The victim: Friends and family are expected to give victim impact statements at the hearing today. Ashley’s family previously said the verdict brought “justice and accountability” for her death.

• The trial: Prosecutors argued Flynn fatally shot his wife in February and staged the crime scene to look like an intruder did it, and they pointed to his affair with a fellow worship leader at his church as a motive. The jury deliberated for about two hours before reaching the verdict. Jurors also visited the family’s home, watched police bodycam footage from the night of Ashley’s death and heard Flynn’s messages to his then-mistress .

Ashley Flynn's family says verdict brought "justice and accountability" for her death

Ashley Flynn’s family said the guilty verdict in the murder trial of her husband brought “justice and accountability” for her death.

Former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn was found guilty on all nine charges. But they acknowledged “no verdict can bring Ashley back, give the girls back their Mother, or erase the pain our family has endured,” the family said in a statement.

The family described her as a woman who “loved Jesus with her whole heart” and loved being a mother.

“We know Ashley is home with the Lord she loved and served,” the family said.

In a separate statement after the verdict, Caleb Flynn’s defense attorney expressed “deep respect for the jury system in the United States,” but said they are “disappointed with the results.”

Flynn's defense "disappointed" with jury's verdict

In a statement shortly after Caleb Flynn was found guilty on all charges , his defense attorney Patrick Mulligan expressed a “deep respect for the jury system in the United States.”

“At the same time, we are disappointed with the results. Not all juries answer questions correctly,” Mulligan said. “I am confident that this decision by the jury will be tested as many times as is required during the appeal process, which will undoubtedly begin after sentencing.”

Caleb Flynn to be sentenced for wife's murder

Former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn is expected to face his late wife’s loved ones in court as he is sentenced for her murder Monday, less than a week after he was convicted of all charges stemming from the fatal shooting of his wife, Ashley, in February.

On Tuesday, an Ohio jury convicted Flynn, 40, of nine charges, including aggravated murder, murder, felony murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence.

Flynn, a former worship leader, could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The case began in the early morning hours of February 16 when Flynn called 911 and later told authorities Ashley – a beloved substitute teacher and volleyball coach – had been fatally shot in their Tipp City home by an intruder while he was in his daughters’ bedroom.

But prosecutors argued Flynn killed her and then staged the crime scene, pointing to his nearly two-year affair with a fellow worship leader, Alleigha Botner, as a motive for the killing.

Flynn’s defense attorneys, however, argued the prosecution’s case relied heavily on the salacious affair and lacked crucial evidence – including the murder weapon, which law enforcement testified was never found.
