Havelock resident plagued by neighbour's dog poo for 2 years, owner says broken gate to blame

An elderly man is at his wits' end dealing with the uncleared excrement of his neighbour's pet dog along the common corridor.

The resident at Block 22 Havelock Road, who did not want to be identified, told Shin Min Daily News that the Pomeranian has purportedly been pooping in front of his and other neighbours' flats for two years.

This happens two to three times a week, the man estimated.

While the resident used to visit the pet's owner to ask for the waste to be cleaned up, he said mobility issues has prevented him from always doing so now.

Complaints filed over the matter have not yielded any improvement in the situation, he told the Chinese publication.

The man added that he was advised to install a CCTV camera to capture evidence.

He reportedly showed Shin Min a video dated Sept 28, in which the Pomeranian is seen defecating near his front door at 4am.

Another CCTV footage from August 2025 reportedly captured a young man cleaning the stool near the resident's flat before throwing it down the block. That same night, the dog defecated along the corridor again.

The resident said he now alerts the authorities to clear the poop but expressed that it is a "band-aid solution".

"We don't think there is anything wrong with keeping pets, but people should have a sense of public responsibility and keep the neighborhood clean," he said.

Not on purpose: Owner

The owner of the Pomeranian, surnamed Lin, said in an interview with Shin Min that his faulty front gate was to blame.

"The door spoilt, and I didn't let the dog out on purpose, so it's none of my business," he was quoted as saying.

The owner demonstrated to the Chinese paper how the gate could not be closed properly.

He also stressed that the Pomeranian only slipped out of the house when he was too fatigued from work, or when his children were not paying attention.

"There is no way I would intentionally train my dog to defecate in front of his home. If we were notified, we will clean it up," he added.

Some other neighbours also told Shin Min they are not affected by the matter.
