In Johor Bahru, company director Chai Min Quan, 39, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to an attempted murder charge after allegedly ramming a vehicle into Noorulamin Soriani.

The incident occurred amidst a police pursuit involving a stolen lorry.

The court set bail at RM10,000 with conditions, and case proceedings are scheduled for November 18.

Chai and co-accused Low Boon Lai also faced theft charges in the Magistrate's Court, with Low facing additional charges of obstructing a police officer, dangerous driving, and drug possession.

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 6 — A 39-year-old company director linked to a 100km police chase involving a stolen lorry claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of attempted murder.

The accused, Chai Min Quan, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him in Malay before Judge N. Kanageswari.

According to the charge, Chai allegedly attempted to murder Noorulamin Soriani, 44, by ramming into him with a black Mitsubishi Triton at 8am on September 30.

The charge was framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam prosecuted, while Chai was represented by lawyer Yap Che Kai.

The court granted Chai bail of RM10,000, subject to three additional conditions: that he report to a police station near his residence, surrender his passport and refrain from harassing the alleged victim or witnesses.

The court fixed November 18 for the submission of documents and case mention.

Earlier, in the Magistrate’s Court, Chai and factory worker Low Boon Lai, 37, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing a lorry after the charge was read out to them in Malay before Magistrate A. Shaarmini.

Low also faced separate charges in the same court of obstructing a police officer in the discharge of his duties, dangerous driving and drug possession.

Last Wednesday, footage circulated on social media showing a man driving a lorry dangerously while fleeing several police patrol cars.

Police were subsequently reported to have pursued the lorry for two hours over a distance of about 100km after two suspects allegedly stole the heavy vehicle in Plentong.
