A bus driver was arrested after a 30-year-old woman died in an accident at the Queen Street Bus Terminal in Bugis on Tuesday evening (Oct 6).

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the police said that they were alerted to a road traffic accident at the junction of Queen Street and Arab Street on Oct 6 at around 7:00pm.

The woman was found trapped under a bus and was released using hydraulic rescue equipment, according to SCDF.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

The police told AsiaOne that a 32-year-old male bus driver was arrested for driving without due care and attention causing death. Police investigations are ongoing.

Queen Street bus terminal runs cross-border bus services to Johor Bahru, Malaysia, including SBS Transit Service 170, Causeway Link Service CW2, and the Singapore-Johore Express.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday night, SBS Transit informed commuters that bus service 170 was delayed and would not operate from Queen Street Bus Terminal due to an accident.

Instead, it told passengers boarding at the terminal to head to the temporary shelter near the junction of Arab Street and Queen Street.

In an update at 11.50pm, SBS Transit wrote in the same post that the bus service 170 had resumed normal operations.

The terminal, which was temporarily closed, was also reopened around the same time.

Netizens have posted pictures of the accident online showing several SCDF and police vehicles and personnel at the scene.

In a photo posted by Xiahongshu user at around 8pm on Tuesday, firefighters could be seen gathered around a blue police tent next to an ambulance. A group of police officers also appeared to be in conversation nearby.

In another image posted to Facebook by LivelyToucan613, a firefighter could be seen kneeling in front of a bus, seemingly looking underneath the vehicle.

Next to the front door of the bus, a group of people were seen holding up a translucent sheet.

AsiaOne has contacted the police and Causeway Link for more information.
