HONG KONG: Hong Kong arrested nine people in a city-wide operation targeting illicit fuel activities, authorities said on Wednesday (Oct 7), as surging global oil prices continue to put pressure on the import-dependent financial hub.

Hong Kong Customs and the Fire Services Department mounted a territory-wide joint operation codenamed "Knockout" targeting illicit fuel activities from Sept 16 to 30, aiming to cut off the source and supply of illicit fuel and tackle illegal fuelling activities in downtown areas. HONG KONG: Hong Kong arrested nine people in a city-wide operation targeting illicit fuel activities, authorities said on Wednesday (Oct 7), as surging global oil prices continue to put pressure on the import-dependent financial hub.
The city lacks its own refineries and imports its entire supply of automotive fuel, with much of it coming from neighbouring mainland China.
