Singapore's 24-hour Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) is expected to remain within the high moderate to low unhealthy range, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said in its daily update on Saturday (Sept 5).
The agency began providing daily updates from Friday, after 24-hour PSI entered into the unhealthy range for the first time since Oct 8, 2023, with the central region recording a reading of 103 that morning.
In its second forecast on Saturday evening, NEA noted that most parts of the surrounding region remained dry.
Its satellite picture at 2.42pm indicated that moderate to dense smoke plumes over the southern and central parts of Sumatra and various parts of Kalimantan are continuing to drift towards Singapore.
This, coupled with expected dry conditions over Singapore and the region in the coming days, and the prevailing south-easterly or southerly winds, means the city state may continue to be affected by transboundary haze should the fires remain active, the agency stated.
It also forecast the 24-hour PSI for Singapore to be in the higher end of the moderate to the lower end of the unhealthy range.
Checks on the NEA haze microsite at 6pm indicated that the 24-hour PSI reading of 104 for the central region remains in the unhealthy range.
Across the north, east, south and west regions, PSI remains in the moderate range, with the west region recording a reading of 92 — bordering on unhealthy range.
NEA said that the health impact of haze is dependent on one's health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.
It advised those who are planning to conduct or participate in outdoor activities now to check the 1-hour PM2.5 concentration readings and vulnerable persons guide.
Meanwhile, those who are planning outdoor activities for the next day should use the 24-hour PSI forecast and the corresponding health advisories for planning.
