ICA foils attempt to smuggle more than 50k vapes, heat sticks declared as electrical parts via Tuas Checkpoint

Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers foiled an attempt to smuggle over 50,600 heat sticks, vaporisers and related components into Singapore via Tuas Checkpoint on Sept 26.

In a Facebook post on Thursday (Oct 8), ICA said its search and examination officers made the discovery after a Malaysia-registered lorry was directed for enhanced checks.

ICA officers found more than 12,600 vaporisers and related components, and 38,000 heat sticks hidden with a consignment of goods declared as "cage assembly and electrical parts".

The 26-year-old male Malaysian driver was arrested and the case referred to the Health Sciences Authority.

Under the Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act, vape users, sellers, and smugglers face fines of $10,000, $20,000 and $300,000 respectively.

Sellers and smugglers may also be jailed for up to six years and nine years respectively.

这名26岁的马来西亚籍男司机已被逮捕，案件已移交卫生科学局处理。

根据《烟草（广告和销售管制）法》，电子烟使用者、销售者和走私者分别面临 10,000 美元、20,000 美元和 300,000 美元的罚款。

卖家和走私者分别可能被判处最高六年和九年监禁。
