A shooting incident involving a police officer and a civilian occurred near the Johor Zoo, resulting in the civilian's injury, confirmed Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.

The incident, which involved two gunshots, led to road closures and gained social media attention.

A media conference by Johor police is scheduled to provide further details on this incident and updates on the investigation into the death of 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal.

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 9 — Police have confirmed that a shooting incident involving a policeman and a member of the public took place near the Johor Zoo along Jalan Gertak Merah here yesterday.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the individual was injured in the incident.

“I confirm that a shooting involving a police officer took place and a member of the public was injured.

“Johor police will hold a media conference regarding the incident tomorrow (today),” he said briefly when contacted by the media yesterday.

Ab Rahaman added that police will also provide updates on the probe into the death of 16-year-old student Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat.

The shooting incident had earlier gone viral on social media after roads leading to the state zoo were closed to all motorists.

It is understood that two gunshots were fired during the incident that happened at 2pm.
