An elderly man, Zulkefli Daud, 72, tragically died after his Proton Wira collided with a Proton Persona on Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu near Sungai Tong.

The incident occurred when Daud's vehicle veered into the opposite lane, and the Proton Persona driver, a 41-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.

Setiu police are investigating the accident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and are seeking eyewitnesses to aid the investigation.

BANDAR PERMAISURI, Oct 9 — An elderly man was killed after the Proton Wira he was driving collided with a Proton Persona at Kilometre 44 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu near Sungai Tong yesterday.

The victim, identified as Zulkefli Daud, 72, a retired Public Works Department (JKR) employee from Kampung Jeli Seberang, Jeli, Kelantan, died while being taken to hospital.

Setiu police chief Supt Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said the accident occurred at about 5.30pm and was believed to have happened when the victim’s car suddenly veered into the opposite lane.

“The driver of the Proton Persona, a 41-year-old woman travelling from Kuala Terengganu towards Kota Bharu, was unable to avoid the car, resulting in a collision.

“The woman sustained minor injuries, while the victim died on the way to hospital. His body was later sent to the Setiu Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement today.

Zahril Asri said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the Traffic Division of the Setiu District Police Headquarters to assist in the investigation. — Bernama
