Singapore Grand Prix 2026 exempted from Beverage Container Return Scheme: NEA

The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix 2026 (SGP) has been exempted from the requirements of the Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS).

In an announcement posted on SGP's website, race promoter Singapore GP said that polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottled beverages sold in the Circuit Park do not include a 10-cent BCRS deposit.

It also urged racegoers to recycle their empty PET bottles in designated bins located around the Circuit Park.

Responding to AsiaOne's queries, the National Environment Agency (NEA) confirmed the exemption, explaining that this is due to F1 Singapore taking place shortly after the full implementation of the BCRS .

The scheme went into full swing on Oct 1, following a six-month transition period that began on April 1.

"Considering the timing of the event so close to the full rollout of the BCRS, as well as its scale and nature, NEA has granted an exemption to SGP and all food and beverage (F&B) operators permitted by SGP to sell beverages within the Circuit Park, from charging a 10-cent BCRS deposit on regulated beverages sold within the Circuit Park," said the agency.

NEA similarly urged racegoers to use designated recycling bins to dispose of used beverage containers.

Apart from the website, Singapore GP will also issue push notifications through the SGP mobile app on Oct 9.

It will also put up notices at F&B outlets and SGP Grid Bars within the Circuit Park.

The 2026 edition of the Singapore Grand Prix is set to take place under unhealthy air quality , but it will also contend with higher temperatures.

On Oct 8, FIA F1 race director Rui Marques declared SGP a heat-hazard race , with temperatures forecast to exceed 31 deg C during the sprint and race.
