Starting 2027, local films and theatre in the Federal Territories will be exempt from entertainment duty to support the creative industry.
The government will allocate over RM130 million to boost the film, music, and creative content sectors in Malaysia.
Incentives will be given for film and animation productions in Malaysia that highlight Malaysian culture and identity.
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Tickets for local films and theatre performances in the Federal Territories will be fully exempt from entertainment duty starting in 2027, as part of the government’s efforts to support the local creative industry.
The government will allocate more than RM130 million to support the film, music and creative content sectors, aimed at enhancing Malaysia’s image, creating jobs and bringing local stories to the international stage.
This includes incentives for local and international film and animation productions that shoot in Malaysia, as well as additional incentives for works that showcase Malaysian culture and national identity.
The government will also strengthen the local animation ecosystem to develop 20 new intellectual properties (IPs) and commercialise Malaysian characters globally.
The government also called on state administrations to introduce similar entertainment duty exemptions to support local creative practitioners.
