Cyclist, 51, dies in Boon Lay accident; elderly driver arrested

A 51-year-old male cyclist died after an accident in Boon Lay that led to the arrest of a 72-year-old male car driver.

The accident happened at about 6.40am on Friday (Oct 9) along Boon Lay Way towards Commonwealth Avenue West.

The 72-year-old was later arrested for driving without due care and attention causing death.

A picture of the aftermath seen by AsiaOne shows a bicycle with its front wheel visibly dented laid against the road divider fencing.

A white sports utility vehicle (SUV) is seen stopped in the rightmost lane near the bicycle.

Debris and marks are also seen on the road behind the SUV.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force stated that the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

The arrested male car driver is now assisting with ongoing police investigations.
