The Public Works Department plans to install a Bailey bridge on the Gua Musang-Kota Bharu road, closed due to a sinkhole near the Kesedar Ethnobotanical Recreation Park.

Installation is set to begin on October 14, taking approximately a week, depending on ground stability and safety conditions.

Motorists are advised to use the alternative FT2747 route and adhere to safety instructions and signs at the affected area.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — The Public Works Department (JKR) will install a Bailey bridge to restore access along the Gua Musang-Kota Bharu road (FT08), which was fully closed following a sinkhole near the Kesedar Ethnobotanical Recreation Park in Gua Musang, Kelantan, yesterday.

In a media statement posted on the JKR Gua Musang Kelantan social media page today, the department said installation work would begin on October 14 and take about a week to complete.

It said the timeline would depend on ground stability and safety conditions at the site.

“JKR will continue to monitor conditions at the location and prioritise road users’ safety throughout the work.

“Motorists travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu via Gua Musang, and those travelling in the opposite direction, are advised to use the alternative route via FT2747, Jalan Pulai-Bandar Baru Gua Musang,” it said.

JKR also urged road users to comply with instructions and observe safety signs placed at the affected location.

It was reported yesterday that the FT08 section along the Central Spine Road (LTU) project’s Packages 3B and 3C, near Kesedar Recreation Park here, had been closed to all vehicles following a sinkhole.

The sinkhole occurred at about 9.05am, affecting an area measuring approximately eight metres deep and nine metres long.

According to reports by JKR Gua Musang and Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd, the affected stretch is on FT08 between Sections 205.556 and 205.564, along the LTU project’s Packages 3B and 3C.
