‘Negeri Sembilan crisis is not DAP’s fault’, says Anthony Loke

DAP has refuted claims of responsibility for the political crisis in Negeri Sembilan, as it is no longer part of the state government.

The turmoil is attributed to the reluctance of Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim to present a new list of executive councillors, impacting the state's administration.

Despite being blamed, DAP remains focused on its duties and is not involved in any political manoeuvring against the current government.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — DAP has stressed that it is not responsible for the ongoing political crisis in Negeri Sembilan.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said it was unfair to continue blaming the party for the crisis when it was no longer part of the state government, according to a report by Sinar Harian today.

“What is happening today is certainly not caused by us. During the Negeri Sembilan state election campaign, they tried to link DAP to the crisis, claiming that we were responsible for what was happening in the state.

“Today, we are already outside the government. So they can no longer blame us or use DAP as an excuse,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the 24th DAP Negeri Sembilan annual convention here on Sunday.

The Seremban MP also said the turmoil in the state appeared to have no end in sight as it involved various factors, including the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

He said the situation was compounded by Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim’s refusal to submit a new list of state executive councillors, as instructed by the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

“There is actually no reason why they (Barisan Nasional) cannot continue governing as usual, because Tuanku Muhriz has asked the menteri besar to submit the names of the new state executive councillors.

“So there is actually no problem. They can choose other people, but the next move is up to them,” he said.

However, Anthony said it was unusual for a state government to have only a menteri besar without a team of executive councillors.

He added that the situation would inevitably disrupt the smooth running of the state administration, as many decisions and administrative matters required approval from the State Executive Council.

“As far as BN’s political manoeuvring is concerned, that is up to them. They have a majority in the state legislative assembly.

“But we have never been involved in any effort of that kind, such as a vote of no confidence against the menteri besar. As I have said, we are focused on our work, and most importantly, I have reminded our elected representatives to stay focused on their duties,” he said when asked about the possibility of BN moving a vote of no confidence against Ismail.

Asked whether the crisis could drag on for a longer period, Anthony said he was unsure but that DAP was prepared for any eventuality.

“如今，我们已经脱离了政府。所以他们不能再责怪我们，也不能再以民主行动党为借口了。”他周日在森美兰州民主行动党第24届年会间隙告诉记者。

芙蓉国会议员还表示，该州的动荡局势似乎看不到尽头，因为它涉及各种因素，包括森美兰州最高元首的地位。

他说，州务大臣拿督依斯迈拉欣拒绝按照国家元首端姑慕纳维尔的指示提交新的州执行议员名单，这让情况变得更加复杂。

“实际上，他们（国民阵线）完全可以像往常一样继续执政，因为端姑慕赫里兹已经要求州务大臣提交新一届州行政议员的名单。

“所以实际上并没有什么问题。他们可以选择其他人，但下一步该怎么做就取决于他们自己了。”他说。

然而，安东尼表示，一个州政府只有一位州务大臣而没有行政议员团队，这种情况很不寻常。

他还补充说，这种情况势必会扰乱州政府的正常运作，因为许多决定和行政事项都需要州行政委员会的批准。

“至于国阵的政治运作，那是他们自己的事。他们在州立法议会中占据多数席位。”

“但我们从未参与过任何此类行动，例如对州务大臣发起不信任投票。正如我所说，我们专注于我们的工作，最重要的是，我已经提醒我们选出的代表们要专注于他们的职责，”当被问及国阵是否有可能对伊斯迈发起不信任投票时，他这样说道。

当被问及这场危机是否会持续更长时间时，安东尼表示他并不确定，但民主行动党已做好应对任何突发情况的准备。
