Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are contemplating the establishment of a control centre to enhance police access to the city's CCTV network, which comprises approximately 10,000 units.

This initiative, as stated by Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh, aims to improve the efficiency of monitoring and response to security and traffic incidents.

Additionally, significant funds have been allocated for upgrading ICT equipment and logistics to support police operations, facilitating closer cooperation between DBKL and police to manage events and combat crime in the capital.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are considering establishing a control centre to give the police better access to the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system across the federal capital.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the initiative is crucial as about 10,000 CCTV units are installed throughout Kuala Lumpur.

She added that it will enhance operational efficiency in monitoring and responding to security incidents and traffic flow.

“DBKL and the PDRM are indeed in discussions to establish a second command centre that is easily accessible to the Police.

“Currently, although DBKL has smart CCTVs, we rely heavily on the police to be on the ground to ensure smooth traffic flow,” she told reporters after handing over information and communications technology (ICT) equipment at the Sentul District Police Headquarters (IPD) here today.

Hannah, the Segambut MP, said RM60,000 has been allocated for ICT equipment for the front counters of Sentul IPD and three police stations under its administration.

She added that RM100,000 has also been allocated to cover part of the logistics costs for police personnel involved in programmes organised by DBKL.

Hannah said close cooperation between DBKL and the police is vital for managing events in the capital, including road closures for running events and concerts, as well as combating crime and online fraud.

Sentul police chief ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the ICT system will significantly help speed up services to the public, especially when lodging police reports. — Bernama
