KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — Two men were killed while two others were injured in an accident involving three cars at Kilometer 18.2 of the Federal Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur, early this morning.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the accident, which occurred at approximately 12.20am, involved a Proton Wira driven by a local man in his 20s who was travelling from Shah Alam to Kuala Lumpur.

He said that preliminary investigations found the driver of the Proton Wira was believed to have failed to control his vehicle before crashing into the road divider on the right side of the highway, triggering a collision with two other cars traveling behind it.

“As a result of the accident, the driver of the Proton Wira and a passenger in his 20s suffered severe injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene.

“Two other passengers, who were friends of the victims, sustained injuries to their bodies,” he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters received a report regarding the fatal accident at 1:05 am today.

He stated that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In the meantime, he reminded all road users to always comply with traffic laws to prevent accidents.

“The police will not compromise with road users who do not obey regulations and will take firm action against any road user who violates the law,” he said.

Shamsudin also appealed to witnesses who saw or were at the scene to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the traffic investigating officer, Insp Mohd Nazar Md Kasim, at 012-5653395 to assist with the investigation. — Bernama
