Singapore and Brunei on Monday (Oct 12) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Supply Chain Resilience, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening supply chain resilience and ensuring the continued flow of essential goods during times of crisis.

The agreement was signed by Singapore's Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu and Brunei's Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Dato Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin at the second Singapore-Brunei Joint Committee Ministerial Meeting (JCMM), which was co-hosted by the two ministers.

According to the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI), the JCMM serves as a key economic platform for Singapore and Brunei Darussalam to deepen economic ties and explore new areas of cooperation.

These include opportunities arising from Brunei's economic diversification efforts, such as food security, the green economy and tourism, while advancing shared growth amid an evolving global economic landscape.

"The memorandum of understanding will strengthen cooperation between Singapore and Brunei Darussalam to safeguard resilient supply chains," METI said.

It also reaffirms both countries' commitments under the Upgraded ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) by providing greater clarity on the essential goods covered between Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

METI said the goods include crude oil, food, fuel products, medical supplies, and other mutually agreed goods.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Fu said the strong progress achieved under the JCMM demonstrates the breadth and potential of Singapore-Brunei cooperation.

"From growing our bilateral trade and investment to strengthening supply chain resilience, we are deepening our partnership in ways that support economic resilience, drive sustainable growth, and deliver tangible benefits for our countries and people.”

Singapore and Brunei share longstanding ties. In 2025, Singapore was Brunei's fourth-largest trading partner in goods, with bilateral merchandise trade amounting to S$2.32 billion.
