Traffic Police (TP) officers were seen in what appeared to be an unmarked vehicle stopping a van along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Sunday (Oct 11), according to a video uploaded to the SG Road Vigilante YouTube page.

In the video, a green commercial van bearing the branding of Clean Solutions can be seen travelling along the rightmost lane of the expressway.

It then speeds past the vehicle recording the incident, which was purportedly travelling at just under 70kmh, according to the dashcam footage.

The video then cuts to a separate clip further down the road, where what appears to be an unmarked police vehicle activates its blue and red emergency lights before pulling in front of the van.

"Ah ha, this one (the van) kena caught already," a voice can be heard saying.

"This green van was speeding on lane one, then this Mazda is traffic police. Catch him already."

The van then slows down as the police vehicle guides it towards the left. The police vehicle stops along the road divider, with both vehicles eventually moving out of frame.

In the comments section, many users praised the traffic police for clamping down on errant drivers.

"Wow, cam-car very happy," said one, commenting on how elated the voice sounded. "After seeing this video, I am also very happy."

A user also commended: "Good catch TP... there are many such vans and trucks abusing traffic lanes for speeding, TP should consider increasing TP unmarked vehicles."

"Thank you for keeping our roads safe," another user wrote.

Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the police said that at about 2pm on Oct 11, Traffic Police officers were patrolling along the PIE when they observed a male van driver driving without wearing a seatbelt.

Subsequently, the 31-year-old van driver was issued a composition fine of $150 and three demerit points.

The police did not respond to AsiaOne's queries on whether Traffic Police use unmarked vehicles for enforcement.

AsiaOne has contacted Clean Solutions for comment.
