KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — The government is confident it can spend the RM510 billion allocated in Budget 2027 without introducing any new taxes, says Minister of Finance II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

He said the government has always emphasised governance to reduce leakage and wastage in the current system to improve the efficiency of national spending.

“The government’s approach is to ensure that what we spend is money well spent to improve the country’s economy and for the people’s benefit.

“When we have focus and carry out our responsibilities well, the government and the country will be more successful in the future,” he said in the Bicara Naratif program aired on RTM 1 titled “Budget 2027: Reaching For The Skies, While Anchored on Our Values,” yesterday.

Amir Hamzah said the country’s continuously strengthening economic data reflects the confidence of foreign investors to keep investing in Malaysia, which in turn can generate national income.

“But the most important thing is ensuring that when the revenue is there, we spend wisely, we close the gaps for any leakages that occur, and we increase the returns we get more efficiently in government expenditure, and this will be tied to the introduction of several new laws,” he said. — Bernama
