The Dewan Rakyat is set to discuss key issues including the implementation of a RM2,000 minimum wage by June 2027, refugee registration for Myanmar nationals, and addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

During the Minister's Question Time, queries will address the potential economic impacts of the new minimum wage, refugee registration targets, and strategies for Palestinian protection and humanitarian aid.

Additionally, the session will cover inquiries on energy capacity, teaching vacancies in Sarawak, and legislative actions against ticket scalping.

The debates on the 2027 Supply Bill are also scheduled, following the recent Budget 2027 announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — The implementation of the RM2,000 minimum wage from June 2027, the registration of Myanmar refugees, and measures to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza are among the key issues scheduled for discussion in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the Order Paper on Parliament’s official portal, during the Minister’s Question Time (MQT), Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) will ask the Economy Minister to explain government mechanisms to ensure the minimum wage implementation does not result in job losses, price hikes, or increased operating costs for small enterprises.

Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau) will ask the Home Minister about the target for registering Myanmar refugees over the next two years through the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) Programme, including targeted numbers and implementation timeline.

Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) will ask the Foreign Minister to outline the government’s strategic steps following three years of genocide in Gaza, particularly in strengthening protection for Palestinians, humanitarian aid access, international accountability, and the reconstruction of Gaza.

During the oral question-and-answer session, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) will ask the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister about the expected new net generation capacity operating by 2030 and the capacity committed through Power Supply Agreements with data centres.

Ahmad Johnie Zawawi (GPS-Igan) will ask the Education Minister about the number of reserve teacher candidates among Sarawakians awaiting appointment, teaching vacancies according to options, and plans to absorb them.

Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) will ask the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister for an update on a study to enact specific legislation against ticket scalping, including existing legal loopholes that hinder enforcement.

Following the question-and-answer session, the house will continue debating the Supply Bill 2027 at the policy stage, following the tabling of Budget 2027 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, last Friday.

According to the calendar for the Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, the policy-stage debate on Budget 2027 will run from Oct 12 to 22, followed by a four-day ministerial winding-up session starting Oct 26.

The Dewan Rakyat sits for 37 days until Dec 8. — Bernama
