A 71-year-old man living alone was found dead in his Choa Chu Kang flat after neighbours spotted he had days of uncollected food deliveries outside his home and smelled a foul odour on Sept 3.
The incident occurred in a unit on the third floor of Block 570 Choa Chu Kang Street 52 at around 1.10pm.
Nari, one of the neighbours and a domestic helper, told Shin Min Daily News that the unit was occupied by a man who rarely left home and relied on takeout meals and supermarket delivery services for daily necessities.
She added that he always kept his door shut and she had not seen him for months.
"Sometimes we'd see takeout hanging outside and he'd open the door to get it shortly afterward," said Nari.
She shared that on Sept 1, food was seen hanging outside his home and had remained uncollected for some time.
They also began smelling a foul odour and, worrying that something might have happened to him, called the police. They later discovered that he had died in his home.
“Ah ma (the elderly employer) and I usually sit at the table and chairs outside to cool off. These last two days, we noticed a strange smell when the wind blew. We didn't think (the man) had passed away," said Nari.
In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police confirmed that a 71-year-old man was found motionless and later pronounced dead in a residential unit.
Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play.
Investigations are ongoing.

9月3日，邻居发现一名71岁独居男子死在蔡厝港的公寓里，此前邻居发现他家门外连续几天无人领取外卖，并闻到一股恶臭。
事件发生在下午 1 点 10 分左右，地点位于蔡厝港 52 街 570 座三楼的一间公寓内。
邻居兼家庭佣工娜莉告诉《新明日报》，这间公寓住着一个很少出门的男子，他依靠外卖和超市送货服务来满足日常所需。
她还说他总是把门关着，她已经好几个月没见过他了。
“有时我们会看到外卖挂在外面，他很快就会开门去拿，”纳里说。
她透露，9月1日，有人看到食物挂在他家门外，而且已经很久没人来取走了。
他们还闻到了一股恶臭，担心他可能出了什么事，于是报了警。后来他们发现他已经死在了家中。
“我和阿妈（那位年长的雇主）平时都坐在外面的桌椅上凉快凉快。这两天，我们刮风的时候闻到一股怪味。我们没想到（那位老人）已经去世了，”娜丽说道。
针对AsiaOne的询问，警方证实，一名71岁男子被发现一动不动地躺在住宅单元内，后被宣布死亡。
根据初步调查，警方不怀疑存在谋杀或其他犯罪行为。
调查仍在进行中。
