The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department seized four luxury vehicles driven by non-citizens for violating road transport laws.

The detained drivers lacked valid driving licences and insurance, with their vehicles missing valid road tax.

Of 3,741 vehicles driven by foreigners, 498 were seized, with 2,422 summonses and 288 notices issued under the Road Transport Act 1987.

SEREMBAN, Oct 14 —The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized four luxury vehicles driven by non-citizens under Op Luxury PeWA, an operation targeting foreign drivers who violate road transport laws.

State JPJ director Jasyindar Singh Sihdu said the vehicles comprised a Toyota Vellfire, two Mercedes-Benz A250s and a BMW limousine, driven by Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Chinese and Myanmar nationals aged between 30 and 40.

“The drivers were detained for not having valid driving licences or insurance, while their vehicles also had no valid road tax,” he told a press conference at the JPJ Seizure Depot here today.

According to him, 498 of 3,741 vehicles driven by foreign nationals were seized under the Foreign Driver Operation (Op PeWA) in Negeri Sembilan from Jan 1 to Oct 11 this year.

He said 2,422 summonses were issued during the operation, while 288 notices were recorded under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which empowers authorities to seize motor vehicles in specified circumstances.

Of the vehicles seized, 313 were motorcycles, 149 were cars and 36 were goods vehicles.

Jasyindar said the drivers involved were from Pakistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh and other countries.

“Investigations found that many used their vehicles for work, such as selling bread and ice cream or operating grass-cutting machines, while most were without valid driving licences and had expired road tax,” he said.

He said last year, 4,811 vehicles were inspected and action was taken against 746, while 3,287 summonses were issued and 301 notices were recorded under Section 64(1). — Bernama
