Discussions for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate list for the Melaka state election are nearly complete, according to PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

The announcement of candidates is set for October 24, following a reschedule at the Melaka PH leadership's request, unrelated to venue permit issues.

Fahmi clarified that the candidate selection process involves initial discussions within PH component parties and potential consultations with other parties, with final decisions made by the PH Presidential Council.

The rescheduling aims to accommodate several PH leaders, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expected to attend the announcement.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — Discussions on the list of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates for the Melaka state election are over 95 per cent complete, said PH Communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who is also communications minister, said PH has scheduled its candidate announcement for Oct 24, with the venue to be confirmed later.

“ Insya-Allah , the candidates who will represent Pakatan Harapan will be announced on Oct 24. Discussions at the party level are now more than 90 to 95 per cent complete,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

Fahmi said discussions on the candidate list begin at the PH component-party level, after which the party contesting a particular seat can hold talks with other parties, if necessary.

“If any party entrusted with contesting a particular seat sees a need to discuss the matter with other parties, it is up to them to do so, and ultimately, the final decision will be made by the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council,” he added.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said the candidate announcement, originally scheduled for today, had been postponed to Oct 24 at the request of the Melaka PH leadership.

He said the change was not due to any permit issues involving the local authorities or problems with the event venue.

“No… the date was rescheduled at the request of several leaders, including our Pakatan Harapan colleagues in Melaka.

“So, we rescheduled it, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PH chairman, is expected to attend on Oct 24,” he added.

Previously, the media reported that the candidate announcement and launch of the PH election machinery for the 16th Melaka state election, scheduled for Sunday (Oct 18), had been postponed.

The postponement raised questions after allegations emerged on social media linking the date change to difficulties in obtaining a local authority permit for the event venue. — Bernama

兼任通讯部长的法米表示，希望联盟已安排在10月24日公布候选人名单，具体地点稍后确定。

“如果一切顺利，希望联盟的候选人将于10月24日公布。党内讨论目前已完成90%至95%以上，”他昨天在此间告诉马新社。

法米表示，候选人名单的讨论首先在希望联盟各成员党层面展开，之后，如有必要，竞选特定席位的政党可以与其他政党进行会谈。

“如果任何受托竞选某个席位的政党认为有必要与其他政党讨论此事，那是他们的自由，最终的决定将由希望联盟主席理事会做出，”他补充道。
