Wedding ang bao box containing $2,000 cash stolen from Beach Road hotel reception

What was meant to be a joyous wedding celebration took an unexpected turn after a money box containing about $2,000 in ang baos was allegedly stolen from a hotel along Beach Road.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Sunday (Oct 18) for his alleged involvement in the theft.

Police said in a news release on Monday (Oct 19) that the alleged theft took place at about 9.15pm on Saturday.

According to police, the man allegedly took a money box containing red packets, which contained an estimated $2,000 in cash.

Officers from the Central Police Division identified the man and arrested him the following day through ground enquiries and with the aid of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

He will be charged in court on Tuesday with the offence of theft in dwelling.

If found guilty of the said offence, the 38-year-old could be jailed for up to seven years and fined.

The police said they have zero tolerance for such acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.

"Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and keep their valuables secure, particularly at celebratory events and in crowded areas," they added.

据警方称，该男子涉嫌拿走了一个装有红包的钱箱，红包内估计有2000美元现金。

中央警署的警员通过实地调查和闭路电视录像的协助，确认了该男子的身份，并在第二天将其逮捕。

他将于周二在法庭上被控入室盗窃罪。

如果被判犯有上述罪行，这名 38 岁的男子可能被判处最高 7 年监禁并处罚款。

警方表示，他们对这类犯罪行为零容忍，并将不遗余力地抓捕犯罪分子，并依法予以惩处。

他们补充说：“建议公众保持警惕，保管好自己的贵重物品，尤其是在庆祝活动和人多拥挤的地方。”
