Residents evacuated amid fire in Tampines HDB block, no injuries reported

Four residents were evacuated following a fire at block 714 Tampines Street 71 on Sunday (Oct 18) afternoon, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

The SCDF said that it was alerted to the fire at around 4.45pm, and extinguished the flames using a water jet.

Contents of a kitchen and service yard in a 13th floor unit were involved in the fire.

Four persons were evacuated from the unit prior to the SCDF's arrival. No injuries were reported.

In videos of the incident shared on Facebook , smoke can be seen billowing from a window on the 13th floor.

Many police vehicles are seen parked below the block alongside a fire engine and SCDF personnel, while onlookers are also gathered in the parking lot, gesturing at the unit.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the SCDF highlighted that the top three causes of fires in residential premises are unattended cooking, electrical fires and unattended lighted materials.

They also advised that residents should not leave cooking unattended and to keep stove-tops, cooker hoods and ovens clean and free of grease.

"They should also avoid overloading power sockets or charging devices overnight without supervision," SCDF said.

"Lighted materials such as incense sticks or cigarettes should never be left unattended and must be fully extinguished before disposal."

虽然火灾原因仍在调查中，但新加坡民防部队强调，住宅火灾的三大原因是无人看管的烹饪、电气火灾和无人看管的点燃物品。

他们还建议居民不要让烹饪过程无人看管，并保持炉灶、抽油烟机和烤箱清洁无油污。

新加坡民防部队表示：“他们还应该避免电源插座过载或在无人监管的情况下夜间充电。”

“点燃的物品，例如香或香烟，绝不能无人看管，并且在丢弃前必须完全熄灭。”
