SEGAMAT, Oct 20 — A businessman has claimed that a fake Facebook account, using his name and image, was used to post content insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay community.

Segamat police chief Superintendent Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail said that the complainant, a local man, lodged a police report here the day before yesterday.

“Police confirm having received a report regarding the misuse of his personal information to create a fake Facebook account.

“This account used his name and photo to upload posts involving 3R (religion, race, and the royal institution) issues,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Jumazanzahir said the complainant has denied that the Facebook account belongs to him and maintains that he never posted the content in question.

“He believes his personal information was misused, creating the false impression that he was the individual responsible for publishing such content," he said, adding that two police reports have been filed in this district, with another lodged in the Shah Alam, all related to the issue.

Meanwhile, Mohd Jumazanzahir advised the public against misusing the identities or personal information of others for fake accounts, disseminating seditious content, or inciting misunderstandings within the community.

“The public is also advised to refrain from speculating or resharing content that has not been verified, particularly content that touches upon sensitive issues regarding race, religion, and the royal institution," he said.

Previously, a post circulating on social media, using the name Cher Cher, had insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong through the use of edited content, accompanied by a caption insulting the Malay community.
