The Singapore national water agency, PUB, is investigating reports of two youths allegedly fishing near Marina Bay Sands, a non-designated area for fishing.

This incident was highlighted in a TikTok video showing the youths at the site, which is prohibited for such activities under PUB regulations.

The agency emphasized that fishing is allowed only in specific designated areas across Singapore's reservoirs and waterways.

Violators face warnings or fines, with repeat offenders potentially incurring prosecution and higher penalties.

SINGAPORE, Oct 20 — The national water agency PUB is investigating after two youths were allegedly seen fishing in the waters near Marina Bay Sands (MBS).

In a video shared on TikTok on Friday (Oct 16), one of the youths is seen reeling in a fishing rod in front of the Louis Vuitton Island store at MBS.

He can also be heard seeking assistance from his companion as he pulls the fish out of the water.

In the comments section, several netizens questioned the youths’ actions, noting that fishing is not permitted in the area.

“It’s illegal to fish at Marina Bay water catchment area!” one user commented.

“Please release the fish back,” another added.

Responding to queries from AsiaOne, PUB said it is investigating the incident and reiterated that fishing is permitted only at designated areas within 15 reservoirs and waterways across Singapore.

The waters in front of Marina Bay Sands are not among the designated fishing areas listed by PUB.

The agency said fishing areas are designated based on several considerations, including the safety of anglers, the safety of other reservoir users, public accessibility and PUB’s operational requirements.

Those caught fishing outside designated fishing areas may receive warning letters or composition fines for a first offence.

Repeat offenders may be prosecuted in court and fined up to S$3,000 (RM9,573). — AsiaOne
