Users of DBS' PayLah! will now be able to use the app to make payments at over 250,000 participating merchants in Taiwan, the bank announced on Wednesday (Oct 21).

DBS is the first Singapore bank to connect its customers to Taiwan's Taiwan QR Code (TWQR) network, giving more than three million PayLah! users access to merchants across the island through the payment service.

The bank said that more than 250,000 merchants, representing about two-thirds of the TWQR merchant network, are currently covered under the arrangement.

The participating providers include: iPass Money, Taiwan Pay, PXPay Plus and Easy Wallet.

In 2027, JKO Pay QR codes will also be onboarded, as payment acceptance progressively expands across the full TWQR merchant network.

To use the service, users need only open the latest version of the PayLah! app and scan the QR code.

Before confirming a transaction, users can view the amount in Taiwan Dollars (TWD), the applicable exchange rate, and the final amount payable in Singapore dollars.

The expansion of its cross-border QR payment capabilities to Taiwan adds to DBS' existing coverage across Indonesia's QRIS, Malaysia's DuitNow, Thailand's PromptPay and UnionPay globally.

DBS Singapore's head of payments and unsecured lending, Chan Sow Han, said DBS is working with partners to bring more of these systems within reach of its customers, so that making payments overseas "feels as familiar and straightforward" as it does with their daily transactions at home.

"Take-up of our cross-border QR payment services remains strong, with transaction volumes growing 2.5 times year-on-year and the number of unique users doubling.

"Our collaboration with Taiwan's TWQR builds on this momentum, bringing consumers and merchants across Asia closer together and making it easier for customers to pay wherever their journeys take them.”

According to Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior, Singapore ranked among Taiwan's top 10 visitor source markets in 2025.
