4 assessed for minor injuries after fire breaks out at Yishun HDB flat

A fire broke out in the kitchen of an 11th floor flat at a HDB block in Yishun on Tuesday (Oct 20) night.

The incident happened at about 9.25pm at Block 472B Yishun Street 42.

Videos of the fire shared with AsiaOne show thick black smoke billowing out from the unit's windows.

Some residents are also seen outside the affected unit with a fire hose reel.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that a fire incident involving the contents of the unit's kitchen took place.

It said that the fire was put out by members of the public using a hose reel before firefighters arrived at the scene.

A total of four persons were also assessed for minor injuries, but they declined to be taken to the hospital, SCDF added.

Fire investigations are ongoing.

The latest fire incident comes just two days after another fire happened at Block 438 Yishun Avenue 11 .

In that instance, a personal mobility aid caught fire at the staircase landing, resulting in the evacuation of over 50 people.

Last year, unattended cooking was among the top causes of residential fires.

Homeowners and residents are advised not to leave cooking unattended, and to keep stove-tops, cooker hoods and ovens clean and free of grease.

They should also avoid overloading power sockets or charging devices overnight without supervision.

Lighted materials such as incense sticks or cigarettes should never be left unattended and must be fully extinguished before disposal.

就在两天前，义顺11道第438座组屋也发生了一起火灾。

那次事件中，楼梯平台上的一台个人助行器着火，导致 50 多人被疏散。

去年，无人照看的烹饪是造成住宅火灾的主要原因之一。

建议房主和居民不要在烹饪时无人看管，并保持炉灶、抽油烟机和烤箱清洁无油污。

他们还应该避免电源插座过载或在无人看管的情况下整夜充电。

点燃的物品，例如香或香烟，绝不能无人看管，并且在丢弃前必须完全熄灭。
