The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sabah plans to meet on October 30 to decide actions against the trailer truck operator involved in the Sepanggar Port accident.

The accident, which involved a container falling onto a car, resulted in the deaths of a father and daughter, while investigations found the trailer had stopped improperly.

The truck driver has been detained by police under the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving that caused the deaths.

KOTA KINABALU, Oct 21 — The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sabah will take action against the operator of the trailer truck involved in the fatal accident near Sepanggar Port on Sunday.

Chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said the board will meet on Oct 30 to discuss and finalise appropriate action against the operator.

He stressed that CVLB will not compromise on any negligence or breaches of regulations that could endanger road users.

This includes considering recommendations to suspend or revoke the relevant licence, subject to the findings of the investigation and applicable laws and regulations, he said.

He said CVLB Sabah will also continue to work closely with the Royal Malaysia Police and Road Transport Department (JPJ) to ensure that firm legal action is taken against those responsible.

In the incident on Sunday, a 53-year-old man and his 24-year-old daughter were killed when a container fell onto the car they were travelling in near Sepanggar Port.

Initial investigations found that the trailer had stopped on the left lane to load a container from the roadside onto the vehicle.

The container then fell onto a passing car.

It took firefighters more than three hours to extricate the victims from the wrecked car.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedics and their bodies were later taken to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for a post-mortem.

The 49-year-old trailer truck driver was detained by police to assist with investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing the death of another person by driving a motor vehicle on a road recklessly or dangerously. — The Borneo Post
