随着特朗普支持率跌至历史新低,共和党人越来越担心中期选举会出现“蓝色浪潮”。

On the campaign trail

• A new low: President Donald Trump’s approval rating stands at a record low of 32%, a CNN poll shows . Democrats enter the midterms with a 10-point nationwide advantage over Republicans in voters’ choice in their own congressional district.

• Another red-state rally : Trump will travel to South Carolina today to campaign for Sen. Darline Graham , who is seeking a full term after being appointed to her late brother Sen. Lindsey Graham’s seat. She is in a tough contest against Democratic candidate Annie Andrews despite Trump winning the state two years ago by 18 points.

• Ohio governor’s race: Republican nominee Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign is drawing fierce pushback over a $4 million ad campaign featuring a video of his Democratic opponent’s estranged mother telling voters to reject her. Vice President JD Vance will be in Ohio today to campaign for Ramaswamy, a source said.

First on CNN: Pro-renewable energy super PAC expands list to target 8 GOP candidates

A pro-renewable energy super PAC that’s already helped defeat three House Republicans in primaries is expanding its target list in the final days of the midterm elections.

Invest in Tomorrow Coalition is launching a $1 million mail campaign opposing eight House GOP incumbents and candidates in competitive races, according to an announcement first shared with CNN. The group said each candidate has “turned on the solar and clean energy industry” through their public positions and votes.

The new targets include six House Republicans running for reelection: Reps. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Tom Barrett of Michigan, Robb Wittman of Virgina, Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, Monica De La Cruz of Texas and Maria Elvira Salazar of Florida. They also includes two GOP candidates for open House seats, Brinker Harding in Nebraska and Jim Desmond in California.

The super PAC is already spending $15 million to defeat seven other House Republican candidates. And in primaries earlier this year, it helped beat Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Ralph Norman of South Carolina, who were seeking higher office, as well as Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee, who was running for reelection.

Trump launches last-minute scramble to contain damage from gas and diesel price spike

Fuel prices are historically high and voters are taking out their anger on President Donald Trump and Republicans.

Trump is waging a campaign in the final moments of the midterm election to quell discontent among farmers , truckers and drivers exhausted by $4 gas and near-record diesel.

In the past few weeks, Trump officials have unveiled a wide range of policy moves, including an $8 billion lifeline to farmers , a controversial plan to import diesel from Russia , allowing truckers to use red-dyed diesel and ways to rehab the aging armada of dark-fleet tankers.

The last-minute scramble to contain the energy price fallout is an implicit acknowledgement of how the war with Iran has exacerbated the American public’s yearslong frustration with the high cost of living – a problem Trump promised to fix on Day One.

“It looks and feels panicky because they’re panicked,” said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, president of the American Action Forum, a center-right think tank.

Some of the Trump administration’s actions could be helpful, but none of them will give voters what they crave: Cheap gas, diesel and jet fuel.

Trump pledges to spend over $400m by Election Day, as midterm campaigns continue. Catch up

With less than two weeks until Election Day, midterms campaigning is in full swing. US President Donald Trump said yesterday he is “ working like a dog” to defend the current Republican majority.

Here’s what else happened on the campaign trail yesterday:

Trump pledged to spend more than $400 million by Election Day, invoking the rioting in France to emphasize what he believes is at stake in the upcoming midterm elections. He also said he would direct the Department of Justice to settle remaining claims related to water contamination at Camp Lejeune if Republicans win the midterms.

The Republican National Committee said it has unloaded over $50 million to help midterm candidates. The RNC raised $18.6 million in September , entering the final full month of the election with $97.3 million in cash on hand, according to its monthly Federal Election Commission filing.

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee, which has struggled to raise money for the entire election cycle, entered October with $19.2 million remaining in its accounts. The committee also has $15 million in debt, tied to a loan incurred last year to help keep it afloat.

Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican nominee for Ohio governor, is launching a $4 million ad campaign featuring his Democratic opponent’s estranged mom telling Ohioans to reject her. Amy Acton has said she has not seen her mother since she was about 12 years old, when her mother’s husband abused her and was facing criminal charges.

New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said her district office in the Bronx received a suspicious letter that is being investigated by the New York Police Department and federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI. She described the incident as an attempt to intimidate elected officials ahead of the elections.

CNN’s Kit Maher, Katherine Dautrich, Patrick Svitek, David Wright, Fredreka Schouten and Gloria Pazmino contributed to this reporting.
