Tunku Putra-HELP International School has announced immediate enhancements to its security measures, including the deployment of ancillary police officers and increased entry safety checks, following an incident where a teacher was injured by a student.

The school plans to implement long-term security strategies in consultation with authorities and will provide counselling support to students.

KUCHING, Oct 22 — Tunku Putra-HELP (TPH) International School has confirmed that it will immediately enhance its campus security measures, including stationing three ancillary police officers on its grounds, following an incident where a teacher was injured by a student yesterday.

The school management announced that safety checks will be conducted upon entry to the campus with immediate effect, as part of a broader review to implement long-term security measures in consultation with relevant authorities.

“While existing safety measures remain in place, TPH has reviewed its safety protocols and has enhanced security measures in consultation with the relevant authorities.

“The school is also exploring more comprehensive, long-term security measures for the campus.

“The Senior Leadership Team will hold assemblies for students to address the incident, provide assurance, respond appropriately to their concerns and provide counselling support for those who may need it,” the school posted on its official Facebook account yesterday.

TPH also confirmed that the school will resume classes tomorrow after receiving clearance from all relevant authorities, following an early closure today as a precautionary measure advised by the police.

Providing an update on the victim, the school stated that the injured teacher was taken to the hospital by ambulance and is currently recovering well with no critical injuries.

It clarified that the alleged student is in police custody and is no longer an active student of TPH, while urging the public not to circulate unverified information or speculate on the incident.

Earlier, Acting Sarawak Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak confirmed the male Form Four student’s arrest and revealed that police seized a penknife and a small axe in connection with the case.

He added that the student has been released on police bail and the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with dangerous weapons, as well as Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957. — Bernama
